Watch your cameras live, in any browser

tinyCCTV is a web app for NVRs and IP cameras. Add your recorder once, and it finds the cameras by itself. Then watch from a computer, phone or tablet, with nothing to install.

Works with the devices you already have

tinyCCTV talks to recorders and cameras in their own protocols and checks every stream before it shows it.

Dahua
NVRs and IP cameras over their web (HTTP) port alone
Hikvision
NVRs and IP cameras over their web (HTTP) port, through ISAPI
ONVIF
Any recorder or camera with ONVIF Profile S, over HTTP
RTSP
Any rtsp:// address, or an NVR scanned by its RTSP streams
HTTP streams
HLS, MJPEG, MPEG-TS, FLV and JPEG snapshots

tinyCCTV connects over the device’s web (HTTP) port — Dahua, Hikvision ISAPI or ONVIF — or by scanning its RTSP streams. Proprietary “SDK” or binary ports (such as Hikvision’s 8000 or Dahua’s 37777) are not supported: forward the web port (usually 80) or the RTSP port (usually 554) instead.

What tinyCCTV does

A small, fast live viewer that stays out of your way.

  • Automatic setup

Enter the address, user name and password. tinyCCTV works out the brand, the channels and the video streams by itself.

  • Four ways to watch

A list, a swipeable slider, a 2x2 grid or a 3x3 grid. The choice is remembered for each device.

  • HD or SD per camera

Use the light sub stream on mobile data and switch a single camera to full quality when you need the detail.

  • Nothing to install

It runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Add it to the home screen of your phone and it opens like an app.

  • One forwarded port can be enough

Dahua recorders play through their web port alone. No separate video port and no browser plugin.

  • Any stream by URL

Add a single camera by its RTSP address, or a public HTTP stream: HLS, MJPEG, MPEG-TS, FLV or a JPEG snapshot.

  • H.265 handled

H.265 cameras play natively where the browser can decode them. Where it cannot, the Pro plan can convert the video for that device.

  • Private by design

Device passwords are encrypted with AES-256. Video is passed through live and never recorded on our servers.

Up and running in a minute

  1. 1

Use your Google account. There is no separate password to remember.

  2. 2

    Add a device

Type the address of your recorder or camera and its login. Detection takes a few seconds.

  3. 3

    Watch

Pick a layout and the cameras start playing. Open the same account on any other device to see the same list.

Two plans, after a free trial

Where the video travels. The iOS and Android apps play cameras straight from your phone, so recorders and RTSP cameras work on Simple with no server of ours involved. A web browser cannot open recorders and RTSP cameras by itself, so there the tinyCCTV server relays their video while you watch — that is Pro. Public HTTPS streams (HLS, MJPEG, JPEG) open directly in a browser too, included in Simple. Simple is a single payment for what needs no server of ours; Pro is monthly because the relay runs on our servers every time you watch.

Questions and answers

What is tinyCCTV?

tinyCCTV lets you watch your NVRs and IP cameras live. You sign in, add your recorder or camera once, and watch it from any browser on a computer, phone or tablet — or from the iOS and Android apps, which also play cameras directly from your phone, with no server in between.

Which devices does it work with?

Dahua recorders and cameras, Hikvision devices through ISAPI, any device that supports ONVIF Profile S, any RTSP stream, and HTTP streams in HLS, MJPEG, MPEG-TS, FLV or JPEG snapshot form. tinyCCTV connects over the device’s web (HTTP) port, or by scanning its RTSP streams — it does not use the proprietary “SDK” or binary ports (such as Hikvision’s 8000 or Dahua’s 37777), so forward the web port (usually 80) or the RTSP port (usually 554) instead. Dahua and ONVIF are tested on real hardware; Hikvision support follows the published ISAPI documentation.

Does my device have to be reachable from the internet?

Yes. tinyCCTV connects to the address you enter, so the recorder or camera needs a public address or a forwarded port. Forward the web (HTTP) port or the RTSP port — not the proprietary “SDK”/binary port (Hikvision 8000, Dahua 37777), which is not supported. For Dahua devices the web port alone is enough; other brands also need their RTSP port. Cloud IDs and P2P serial numbers are not supported.

Is there a mobile app, and do I need to install anything?

The website needs nothing installed — it runs in any browser without plugins, and on a phone you can add it to the home screen to open it full screen. There are also native iOS and Android apps, and they do more than the website: they play your recorders and RTSP cameras directly from the phone, with no server in between, so those cameras work on the Simple plan. Get them from the App Store and Google Play (links on this page).

How much does it cost?

The first 7 days are free with one device and every feature. After that there are two plans. Simple is a single payment for any number of devices: in the apps, recorders and RTSP cameras play straight from your phone; in a browser, the streams a browser can open by itself. Pro is a monthly subscription that adds recorders and RTSP cameras in a web browser (and in the apps when the phone cannot reach a camera directly) plus H.265 conversion. Prices are shown before you pay.

What is the difference between Simple and Pro?

Where the video travels. The iOS and Android apps play cameras straight from your phone, so recorders and RTSP cameras work on Simple with no server of ours involved. A web browser cannot open recorders and RTSP cameras by itself, so there the tinyCCTV server relays their video while you watch — that is Pro, paid monthly because it uses our servers every time. Public HTTPS streams (HLS, MJPEG, JPEG snapshots) open directly in a browser too, included in Simple. The apps use that same relay (Pro) only when your phone cannot reach a camera directly, for example on another network.

Is my video stored or recorded?

No. Video is streamed live and never saved. In the apps it goes straight from your camera to your phone; in a browser, public streams play straight from the source, and recorders and RTSP cameras are relayed live through our server only while you watch.

How are my device passwords protected?

Device passwords are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they are stored, and they are never sent back to the browser. All connections to tinyCCTV use HTTPS.

Can I watch recordings, hear audio or control PTZ cameras?

Not at the moment. tinyCCTV shows live video only, without audio. Playback of recordings and PTZ control are not available.

Do H.265 cameras work?

Yes. H.265 plays directly in browsers that can decode it, such as Safari and recent Chrome and Edge on supported hardware. For other browsers you can use the H.264 sub stream, or on the Pro plan enable conversion for the device.

Is tinyCCTV made by Dahua or Hikvision?

No. tinyCCTV is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by Dahua, Hikvision or any other camera manufacturer.
